HOUSE UPDATE: KITCHEN BEFORE/MIDDLE/ALMOST THERE
Diving into the details a bit, I figured we would start with the Kitchen. Our house needs a bit (a lot) of work since it hasn't been touched really since the 60s/70s so we decided to do things in phases. The Kitchen is strangely but happily large for an old home like this. Everyone ends up in the kitchen so I will take a larger kitchen over a cozier Living Room.
Everyone who has ever demo'd or remodeled told us to wait. To live in the space a bit to get a feel for it. Then you know what works, what doesn't, how you use the space. So you can really remodel to fit your lifestyle and be happy about it with NO REGRETS...That's what we are doing. We are going to facelift the kitchen and revisit with a full remodel down the road. I keep saying 5 year plan. But who knows right? It could be 1 year... or never. Either way it will be cleaner. That's the goal.
KITCHEN AT TIME OF CLOSING
THIS GIVES YOU AN IDEA OF EACH WALL. IT'S A ROUGH 360. WALLPAPER, CURTAINS, ETC.
We are lucky because we the layout is pretty simple. Lots of cabinet space & 2 giant double pantries. The cabinets are dated but they are perfect to paint. I found a dishwasher (which we need to install as there wasn't one) and an electric oven (bummer but such is life) on Craigslist for $150. Just need a serious deep clean as does everything else in this house.
We refinished the floors with the rest of the house. Chris is going to build us an island. A few more cosmetic updates and the kitchen is perfectly fine. Allowing us time to feel it out and spend the big bucks on getting the barn up and running for Chris' workshop. Priority #2 after the main house being clean and safe for Evie... 1 year olds tend to find all the bad stuff and immediately put it in their mouths, forget about the dogs...
ENOUGH ALREADY, lets see some pictures, videos, blood, sweat, tears...
KITCHEN WALLPAPER MEMORY REEL
THESE 4 BEAUTIES COVERED THESE PLASTER WALLS AT SOME POINT IN THIS KITCHEN'S LIFE. I WONDER WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE?
REMOVED WALLPAPER, SKIM COATED (THANKS TO MY FATHER IN LAW) & PAINTED A MINT GREEN (THAT TOOK ME A FEW TRIES TO GET RIGHT)
SOME SUPER FUN PHOTOS THROUGH THE TRANSITION. FEEL THE PAIN & THE JOY...
AND HERE WE ARE... APRIL 15TH. OUR VERY GENEROUS FATHER IN LAW GAVE US THE FRIDGE (SINCE THE OWNER TOOK HERS WITH HER). WE HAVE TO INSTALL THE DISHWASHER & HOOD. CALLING THE ELECTRICIAN TOMORROW. TOUCHUPS, POTENTIALLY PAINTING THE COUNTERTOP WITH ONE OF THOSE KITS. CHRIS IS BUILDING THE ISLAND (ON HIS LIST...) AND SO ON. I MEAN THE REST IS THE FUN STUFF. THE EASY STUFF. THE DECORATING. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THAT...
